Bengaluru: Sasikala gets 5-day parole to visit her sick husband

Bengaluru, Oct 6 (PTI): Jailed AIADMK leader V K Sasikala was today granted parole for five days by prison authorities in Karnataka to meet her husband, who underwent a liver and kidney transplant at a Chennai hospital.

Sasikala had sought parole for 15 days, but she has been granted for five days, jail authorities said.

After her first application was rejected on "technical grounds" on October three for not producing certain requisite documents, Sasikala had filed a fresh plea for parole.

She is expected to leave for Chennai in the afternoon.

Rajya Sabha member from Tamil Nadu Navneet Krishnan has given an undertaking for Sasikala's parole, her lawyer Krisnappana told reporters outside the jail premises.

"Rs 1,000 surety also has been deposited," he added.

Around 100 supporters of Sasikala gathered outside the jail premises.

Krisnappana said Sasikala's nephew TTV Dhinakaran had arrived at the jail and was completing the parole formalities.

Tamil Nadu Police had earlier issued an NOC to the Karnataka government for granting parole to Sasikala, he said.

Sasikala's husband, M Natarajan (74) underwent the liver and kidney transplant on October 3 with the organs harvested from a brain-dead youth, according to Gleneagles Global Health City hospital in Chennai.

Sasikala has been in Parapana Agrahara central jail here since February this year after the Supreme Court upheld her conviction by a special court in a disproportionate assets case.

Her relatives Ilavarasi and V N Sudhakaran are also serving four-year jail terms.

The Gujarat High Court on Thursday granted seven days bail to Naroda Patiya convict Babu Bajrangi after he sought relief for treatment of his ailing wife. This is the 14th time that Bajrangi, who is said to have lost his eyesight, has been granted interim bail, mostly on the ground of his own and his wife’s health.
“A perusal of the jail record of the applicant reveals that he has undergone three years, seven months and two days of imprisonment. During the said period, the applicant had availed of temporary bail on as many as 13 occasions.”
Bajrangi, an ex-Bajrang Dal leader, was sentenced to life for his role in the Naroda Patiya massacre, along with former BJP minister Maya Kodnani and 29 others, in 2012.
The former Gujarat minister Maya Kodnani for women development and child welfare who was convicted in the 2002 Gujarat riots case was granted bail on health grounds in 2014. Kodnani was recently photographed at a meditation camp that was organised on private group on the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
The incident at Naroda Patya in 2002 for which she was convicted, is considered to be the worst massacre during the Gujarat riots. It resulted in the murder of 97 people at the hands of a mob led by the former education minister of Gujarat.
Modi speaks often about the inability of the Congress to protect India’s citizens from terrorist violence. He will not be able to deflect the truth that his own minister was responsible for the killing of Gujaratis easily. Modi’s record at protecting his citizens has been poor.
This is the reality of the 'Gujarat Model' were life prison convicts scot free and attend in private parties.
At Least Chinma Sasikala is only convicted for corruption. But only in Gujarat convicted criminals gets bail. Thanks to BJP and its High Court judges leaning towards Sangh Parivar.
