Beltangady, Oct 7: Buckling under pressure after public outcry, Ujire deputy range forest officer, Keerthan Shetty, who was alleged to have mercilessly assaulted Kamaldas from Puduvettu near here, has been transferred to Puttur. Belthangady MLA K Vasanth Bangera has informed about the same.

MLA Bangera was under constant pressure from the people of his constituency to punish the forest officer who accused of launching a murderous assault on Kamaldas accusing him of stealing wood from forest although he lives beyond the officer's jurisdiction.

The MLA had promised that the guilty official would be shunted out of the region within three days after protests were held by various organizations on October 3 seeking suspension of Keerthan Shetty.

A memorandum was also submitted to the chief minister and forest minister by the protestors.

    Unbelieveable.That fellow can do there what he practiced here further without any problem.He is not punished in any way only transfered.No justice here for poor.This is India.two types of treatment .Poor one is punished in everyway ,whether he is innocent or not.Atleast he should have made to pay some compansation to carpenter for his pain.Disguesting.He is not only forest officer but also a man from forest.

    I am really surprise how a government officer can get away with criminal assault simply by a transfer !!! Imagine, what will happen if someone assault the government officer. Law of the country must be the same for every citizen, rather, it should tougher on government employees because they are held in higher standard and set a exemplary character than ordinary citizen. Unless and until someone pursue this case further and get the deserved punishment, Tom, Dick and Harry will start beating innocent citizens and they have been doing since British era. Some legislators already start beating people and getting away without even tending apology. Are we waiting for getting our own turn? In a country where animals are protected by anti-cruelty laws, humans are not. I know, there is a British era law which requires government permission to prosecute government servant for criminal case, but there is no permission required for Civil case. Sometimes, civil case is more effective than the criminal, if you hire a good lawyer. At any cost, assault by the government officers must stop in this civilized society. Otherwise, we will be Kurigalu saar kurigalu without the protection of anti-cruelty laws.
