Bengaluru, Oct 8: A caretaker at Bannerghatta Biological Park was mauled to death by a white tiger on Saturday evening.

The victim was 40-year-old Anji who lived in the Hakki Pikki colony. He was hired as a caretaker on temporary basis only a week back.

Anji was directed to feed the tigers. He was supposedly helping as one of the senior guards was on leave.

On Saturday evening, Anji went into the enclosure to feed tigers. The tiger enclosure has three gates and one opens to the Safari area. The gate is opened every morning to allow tigers to leave the enclosure and closed in the evening after they return.

Anji who had entered the enclosure, delayed in closing the gate that opens to the safari area. It was here that one of the tigers from the safari area entered the enclosure, attacked him and dragged him to the safari area.

The other zoo staff heard his cries and rushed to the spot, but by then Anji had died.

The Bannerghatta police shifted the body for post-mortem.

Recently on September 21, Shreyas, a nine-year-old white tiger died after fighting with two other Royal Bengal tigers at the safari of the Bannerghatta Park.
