Fire at Kolkata chemical factory

Kolkata, Oct 11 (IANS): A fire broke out in a South Kolkata chemical factory on Wednesday, police said.

There were, however, no reports of any casualty or injury.

Smoke was seen billowing out at around 10:30 a.m. from the Taratala area factory, where a large amount of aluminium powder used in making firecrackers was stored.

Ten fire engines brought the situation partially under control after over four hours of firefighting.

A fireman said the blaze probably started after the chemical came in contact with water.

Loud explosions were also heard from inside the factory.

"The aluminium powder was stored for making fireworks for Diwali," he said.
