CRPF trooper in Meghalaya shoots himself dead

Tura (Meghalaya), Oct 13 (IANS): A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable shot himself dead on Wednesday night, police said on Thursday.

T. Chinza Kam shot himself dead with his service weapon inside the CRPF Company camp at Dapokgre area after completing his duty for the day, said West Garo Hills district police chief M.G.R. Kumar.

Kam, who is from Manipur's Churchandpur district, was declared dead by doctors at the nearby hospital he was taken to.

A CRPF official said that it prima facie it seems to be a case of suicide but they were looking at all angles to the case.

"We don't know what could be the reason that led him to take such an extreme step, but we suspected that it could be a family problem," the official said.
