Udupi, Jun 13: Accidents are a common occurence in the coastal part of the state and every day one hears reads of some or the other mishap. If some news items create sensation with pictures, others point out the pathetic state of the roads, careless driving etc.

And to show our concern as humans, we often regret the incident with an exclamation, 'oh this should not have happened!'

An incident which took place near Kaup has raised big questions on how certain people can go to any extent to earn money or take advantage of the situation, even if it happens to be a road accident.

A truck, carrying heavy steel-plates for Suzlon project in Padubidri from Andhra Pradesh overturned near Kaup.

Though the driver and the cleaner of the truck escaped without major injuries, the locals (not all of them) took instant advantage of the diesel that was leaking from the truck.

Moments after the news spread, a huge line was seen with bottles in hands to fill diesel from the truck!

Daijiworld Udupi reporter says that it was even more pathetic to see many trying to negotiate with other vehicle owners to sell the diesel they had managed to fill their bottles with!

Both the truck driver and the cleaner were in a state of shock as the truck turned turtle, but it was a festival of diesel for the locals.

We might be humans, but when will we ever learn to be humane?

This incident does not need criticisation as in these days when fuel is so expensive if somebody is collecting fuel which is leaking there is nothing wrong, yeah if somebody tried to loot the goods in the truck then yes its bad.

This is not a new thing. There were instances of people looting shops houses during natural calamities like earth quakes and sunamies. Also passengers of trains are alos looted on the accident site.We can not expect everybody to be a good samariten.God sends good people who help victims and some bad people to loot.

Well! I don’t think its wrong in collecting the diesel that was leaking from the truck. I totally agree with Mr. Alwyn, Bantwal that the locals saved other accidents like fire, road slippery conditions. I had a very bad experience few years back on NH-17, when a truck overturned and the diesel was spread through out the road, my two wheeler got skid and I had my right leg fractured. I would be really grateful for the local crowed if they would have done the same during that time. Keep it up local's... but I don’t appreciate selling the collected diesel, this was really an unfair done by the locals.
