M'lore: 'Farmers should be Made Aware of Research in Agriculture'

Mangalore, Jun 14: The results of laboratory researches in the field of agriculture should be made known to the end users, that is the farmers, said zilla panchayat president K P Sucharita Shetty.

Inaugurating a workshop for farmers organized by Agricultural Science Centre under its ATMA scheme here on Friday Jun 13, Shetty said that it was important to let the farmers know of the research being undertaken as it will help to empower them. He urged banks, cooperative societies and government departments to help the farmers as much as possible.

Later, he released booklets on methods of disease control in areca and pepper.

Farmers, officials of the department of agriculture and members of various self-help groups participated in the workshop.

There was also an exhibition organized on the occasion, that shed light on various aspects, problems, technology and advances made in the field of agriculture.

Among those present were agriculture researcher Dr T R Guruprasad, Agriculture Science Centre programme coordinator Dr H Hanumathappa and agriculture department joint director Padmaya Nayak.
