Panaji: Preparations in Full Swing for Revolution Day

Panaji, Jun 17: Governor S C Jamir will lead the State in paying tributes to the freedom fighters, honour 41 personalites and speak to the state at the main function to be organized at the Martyrs Memorial Azad Maidan, Panaji, at 8.45 am on the occasion of Goa Revolution Day to be observed in the State on Wednesday June 18.

June 18 is of historical significance to the State as it was on this day in 1946 that Dr Ram Manohar Lohia gave a clarion call awakening the Goans to rise in rebellion against the colonial rulers at a meeting held in Margao.

Besides the main function at Azad Maidan in Panaji functions will also be organized at Lohia Maidan in Margao, Kranti Maidan in Ponda.

On his arrival at the venue of the function in Panaji, at 8.53 am the Governor will be received by chief minister Digambar Kamat, chief secretary J P Singh and DGP B S Brar.

Later the Governor will proceed to the Martyrs' Memorial and pay floral tributes in  memory of those who sacrificed their lives in the freedom struggle. Chief minister   Digambar Kamat, Pratapsingh  R Rane, Ccuncil of ministers, leader of the opposition in the State Manohar  Parrikar and several freedom fighters will also pay floral tributes on the occasion.

PWD minister Churchill Alemao will pay homage in memory of freedom fighters and place wreath at the Martyrs Memorial at a function to be held at 8.30 am on June 18.  Transport minister Sudin Dhavlikar will perform the ceremonies at the Kranti Maidan, Ponda at 9.00 am.      At the function at Panaji the choir group of Bal Bhavan will sing patriotic songs while at Margao and Ponda patriotic songs will be sung by students drawn from the locality and surrounding areas.
