Mersal row: BJP’s H Raja shares pic of actor Vijay’s voter ID to prove his point

Chennai, Oct 24 (Zee News): Adding fuel to fire over the Mersal movie controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader H Raja has dragged the religion of Tamil actor Vijay. Taking to Twitter, the politician shared a picture of the popular actor’s voter ID showing his full name as Joseph Vijay.

The BJP leader posted the voter ID of the actor with caption – “Truth is bitter”.

This is not the first time that Raja raked up the religion of the actor over the issue. He had earlier written, “Joseph Vijay’s hatred for Modi is Mersal”.

He had also raised questions over a dialogue in the movie that said hospitals must be built before temples. Pointing that as many as 17,500 churches, 9,700 mosques and 370 temples were constructed in the last 20 years, he had asked, “out of these what should be avoided to build hospitals?”

The BJP has been on an offensive against the movie, directed by Atlee Kumar, since its release on October 18 in theatres.

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Tamilisai Soundararajan had demanded removal of the dialogues relating to GST, digital payments and temples from the movie as they allegedly spread a wrong message.

She also wondered whether Vijay had asked his fans to distribute milk to poor children instead of pouring it on his cutouts erected outside the theatres.

There was also a war of words between senior BJP leader GVL Narsimha Rao and Bollywood actor-producer Farhan Akhtar. Speaking on the issue, Rao had told a television channel that “most of our film stars have very low general knowledge”.

Reacting to this, Farhan Akhtar expressed his anger on Twitter, saying “how dare you, sir?? And to all the film people in his ranks.. here’s what he thinks of you”.

The movie and the actors, meanwhile, also got the backing of Tamil superstar Rajinikanth, who has been hinting on making a foray in politics. He had extended his support to the movie team on Twitter and lauded them for addressing “important topic”. "Important topic addressed... Well done!!! Congratulations team Mersal," Rajinikanth tweeted.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and senior party leader P Chidambaram had also hit out at the BJP for demanding cuts in "Mersal".

"Mr Modi, Cinema is a deep expression of Tamil culture and language. Don't try to demon-etise Tamil pride by interfering in Mersal," Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet which was retweeted by Chidambaram.

The makers of the film have, however, said that if needed they would delete scenes that have caused “misunderstanding”.

Claiming that the BJP leaders have accepted their explanation, Sri Thenandal Films head Murali Ramaswamy said, "From their perspective, their opposition is just. If opinions (expressed in the movie) that may lead to misunderstanding need to be removed, we are ready for that too."

People like Raja want to downgrade our country and people as much as possible for vote.. We are heading towards a major threat.

As long as I'm aware, Trump is a Christian. Does this mean we should stop all relationship with them? We Indians spread across world. If every country think in the similar way, there will be a security threat to everyone irrespective of any religion

GVL Narasimha Rao says that Film actors have very little general Knowledge....................Looks like he already has checked and confirmed with Hema Malini, Gajendra Singh, Shatrugan Sinha, Paresh Rawal, Kiron Kher, Amitabh Bachchan. Smiriti Irani, Dharmendra, I don't think many will have objections to his statement.

Mr. Modiji has done the self goal by GST and demonitisation. Here Tamilnadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader H Raja has done the suicide for the party by using the religion card.

Even the so called supporter like Rajanikanth has supported Mersal movie and its actor. . Even GST supporter Kamal Hasan too done the same. Day by day, one by one of BJP strong supporters are leaving them.

This is not Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas. This is hate politics. No performance, When others perform, just vomit hate and venom.

So according to BJP, Christians or any other minorities are not supposed to speak against GST or any other government programme that affects the citizens. And they say 'sab ka saath sab ka vikas'. Is BJP saying that the Christians, Muslims etc are not supposed to criticize the government? Are you excluding us from India? Frustrated party with frustrated souls whose only ability and capacity is their religious identity!

Congratulations BJP, I fully endorse your suicidal tendencies of alienating everyone. Minorities are your enemies, students are your enemies, intellectuals are your enemies, dalits and the poor are your enemies, people from the media who do not tow your line are your enemies, people who do not agree with your ideology are your enemies..............Very soon every Indian will be your enemy and you will have to go to Pakistan to find friends.

Keralites were living in unity irrespective of their caste, religion, creed. BJP entered state and started dividing people in the name of religion!

People of TN take pride in calling themselves 'Tamilian', irrespective of their caste, religion, creed... BJP entered TN and started dividing people in the name of religion!

BJP knows very well... without dividing people and filling hatred among them, they can not come to power.

This guy wants to be a TN politician. During 2014 this guy Vijay's films were not being allowed to be screened by Amma who blocked the release of all his movies coz the television rights were not given to her TV channel.. He was in a bad state at that time. That time Modi was visiting Tamil Nadu and this guy shamelessly flew to Coimbatore and begged for a meeting and met up with Modi and plastered the pics across social media to show his strength to Amma and got his movies released . Now that Amma is no more and he is in a good position in his career, this ungrateful guy has taken to abusing Modi.. What a characterless guy.. And people are willing to die for such a weak personality.. His name says it all, He flaunts his pnly first Hindu name to attract masses.

    What is wrong Mr Raja?
He is Indian citizen, he pays tax, he creates awareness among masses, yes a political party shouldn't build temples or any religious places of worship as no politics in their name is acceptable.
Just show me where in our constitution it is written by Ambedkar that only so & so religious or caste person can only criticize govt., policy irrespective of any party in power?
The same way why a public servant or party shouldn't be asked questions or guided by movie actors?
It's Time people see the game plan of Fascist minded people who want to divide people to polarize votes in their favor.
Let this person file cases against Vijay & see what comes out of the verdict instead of raking up silly issues or things that nail his bias.
