Appointment of Kashmir interlocutor will not impact Army operations: Army Chief

New Delhi, Oct 25 (IANS): Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Wednesday said the appointment of an interlocutor for dialogue on Jammu and Kashmir will not have any impact on the Army's operations in the troubled state.

The Union government on Monday named Dineshwar Sharma, former chief of the Intelligence Bureau, to hold dialogue on Kashmir.

"The government has appointed an interlocutor... give them some time to sit and work things out," General Rawat told reporters.

Asked if it will have any impact on Army's operations in the state, the Army chief said: "No, it will not."

He also said the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is improving.

"I think the situation (in Kashmir) is improving."

Asked about the increase in firing at the Line of Control, the Army Chief said it has led to lower infiltration.

"Because of it (firing at LoC) infiltration has gone down. We have killed the terrorists on the border...," he said.
