Swiss couple attacked in Agra, Sushma seeks report

New Delhi, Oct 26 (PTI): A Swiss couple were attacked by a group of youths in Fatehpur Sikri on Sunday, according to a news report.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Wednesday sought information from the Uttar Pradesh government. She also said that her office will reach out to the couple.

"I have just seen this. I have asked for a report from the state government. My officers will reach them in the hospital," Sushma tweeted.

According to the report, a couple from Lausanne in Switzerland was chased and attacked with stones and sticks by a group of youths, leaving them battered and bruised.

Quentin Jeremy Clerc (24), who came to India on September 30 with his girlfriend Marie Droz (24) was quoted as saying that they were walking near the railway station after a day in Agra when the group started following them and later attacked.

The couple said as they lay on the ground bloodied and bruised, bystanders began taking videos on their mobile phone.

    Switzerland is only safe for Indian 'black money' but India is not safe for Swiss citizens.

    Severe punishment with public shaming must happen...

    It is UP culture. Agra as a whole is by and large very dirty.
    That apart we have 2 kinds of people : blame everything under the sun on Modi or on Congress.

    In a sense are we all like those people who blame , show their frustration, animosity etc etc? If that is true then we have a social malaise.

    We pride ourselves as being the cradle of civilization. The tourism wealth of India is second to none, yet we rank 40th in the number of tourists arriving each year. Around 14 million tourists visit India each year whereas a small country like France attracts over 82 million people. In Asia smaller countries like Thailand, UAE and Malaysia attract more tourists than us. Most countries have a Tourist Police force to look after tourists and they are protected. If our leaders instead of wasting money on foreign study tours, take a little more interest, we can be the number one tourist destination in the world. Proper infrastructure like smaller airports ( Instead of bullet trains), railway connectivity with modern coaches, better roads, buses, hotels and inns, clean wash rooms, trained and licenced tourist guides and an efficient tourism police force dedicated for the well being and protection of tourists are some of the areas that need to be urgently looked into. There should be stringent laws against molesting and harassment of tourists.

    Who will listen to your wise suggestion? Though India has a great potential to be the no 1 nation in tourism, in reality one continent of entirely different culture-food-language-culture -religion etc, but the current Government and its followers will ruin everything.

    Taj Mahl is an international wonder, now the U.P. sick CM wanted to destroy that. Also, Dr. Subramanium Swami is sowing the seeds of friction to destroy that. Where India is headed?

    This is really pathetic. These activities have spoiled India's name abroad. We have already lost employment opportunities for our larger youth and now a few Tourists visiting India, that too will diminish, especially to UP. A few guides or travel business also will affect and grow further unemployment. Government should have educated people when violence started on the pretext of cows initially. Instead, governments became busy testing whether it was beef or mutton? No doubt, anything illegal not tolerated but there is police whom the citizens pay salaries, who can take care of these. Instead of testing what people carry or cook in their kitchens, it would have been better for the respective governments to stop these trouble makers, by education, counselling etc. We have so many Indians working abroad and earning their bread and sending foreign money to India. Think about all those our brothers and sisters also working abroad. What about if they too are treated like this?? It is better to stop these elements first. Why we have become so narrow minded, instead of working for creating a better India for all to live in peace and harmony under our strong democratic secular constitution.

    The world " sickular" is not found in any English Dictionary. Why the English hating Modi/Amith Shaw worshipers are creaking unheard vocabularies with English alphabet? It seems like the " sick minded" people invented that.

    The PM/Arun Jaitly/Amith address the nation in Hindi? Far more number of people understand English in the southern and northeastern Indian States . Glad that the current President of India is speaking in English though reading.
