Kerala Police confirms detained men had IS-links

Kannur (Kerala) Oct 27 (IANS): Five Muslim men arrested here have links to the Islamic State (IS) terror group, the Kerala Police confirmed on Friday.

The five men revealed about their links with the IS during interrogation, a police official told IANS.

"These men were in Turkey. Their arrest did not happen overnight, instead we have been questioning them on and off for the past few months. The arrest was recorded only after confirming everything. All five are now under judicial custody," he said.

Of the five, two were arrested on Thursday and the three others on Wednesday. They hail from Chakarakal and nearby areas of Kannur.

The official also confirmed that five other men from Kerala were killed in Afghanistan earlier this year.
