Eight militants killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Oct 30 (IANS): At least eight militants have been killed in an Afghan forces' special operation in Logar province, said an official.

The raid was conducted on Sunday in Karwar district, and among those killed in the raid was a Taliban leader named Mukhtar, provincial governor spokesman Salim Salah told Xinhua.

Some arms and ammunition were also seized during the operation, according to the spokesman.

Afghan security forces have beefed up security operations against militants as Afghans have been witnessing a surge in attacks by Taliban and Islamic State (IS) militants across the country.
