Mangaluru Oct 31: Opposition took up of the matter of Mayor Kavitha Sanil allegedly assaulting the watchman's wife in an apartment in Bejai during the MCC meeting on Tuesday, October 31.

They demanded h resignation over the issue. This led to the exchange of words between both parties. Mayor could not utter a single word due to interruption in the beginning. 

Kavitha Sanil wept during the protest inside MCC and said , “I am ready to say it at Kateel Shri Durga Parameshwari temple that I did not assault the wife of watchman. I also challenge the opposition to say at the same temple that I assaulted the wife of watchman,”

Corporator AC Vinayaraj said,"If Roopa D Bangera had any concern on Kamala, she would have complained to the police and taken to the hospital, instead took the videos and politicized the issue, when they do not have any concern on other issues. Why do they have special interest on this issue?”.

Corporator Madhu said, "You have no moral right to talk against Mayor Kavitha Sanil,”

Corporator Naveen Chandra and ruling party corporators involved in argument and pushed each other.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil urged opposition to allow for clarify the issue and said," I have clarified the issue with the media and showed all the CCTV footage where it is clearly visible that lady is chasing my child,”

Earlier district BJP staged a protest here at Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) accusing r failure of the city administration of not functioning properly on Tuesday, October 31. 

Addressing the protestors, BJP north block president, Vedavyas Kamath said,"MCC administration had utterly failed in delivering development works in Mangaluru. Mayor Kavitha Sanil is known for giving only statements to the media. People do not benefit from this. Recently mayor embarrassed people of Mangaluru by assaulting the wife of watchman at the apartment in Bejai. This is nothing but a shameful act by the mayor. Later she denied the allegations and filed counter case against the wife of the watchman,”.

Corporator Sudhir Shetty said," Mayor Sanil is running goondaism administration. When she Sanil stepped in as mayor, she assured that she will work for the poor, but currently she is doing works just for publicity. There are over 100 massage parlours which are run illegally but she preferred to raid only one massage parlour and kept quiet. There are over 2000 illegal water connections in city. But she raided one building flat at Maryhill to disconnect the illegal water connections just for publicity. MCC has not utilizing the chief minister's fund in proper manner. When Yeddyurappa was the chief minister, MCC had utilized the fund and concretized the road in Mangaluru. Currently out of Rs 100 crore of chief minister's fund, only Rs 50 crore money has been spent for development works, what about other Rs 50 crore?”

BJP leader Ravi Shankar Mijar said, “There are several development works which are pending in Mangaluru. There are no proper roads and drainage facilities. The public toilet located opposite BJP office is stinking and not been functioning for several years in spite of demands to repair it. They need to maintain toilets within the MCC limits properly. Recently MCC opened new E-toilets. But are they functioning? Are people using them?”

“Nearly 17 toilets are coming up in Mangaluru city, what is need of such toilet when they cannot repair the existing toilets?” he added.
