Given police free hand to act against corruption, says Sonowal

Guwahati, Nov 10 (IANS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said his government has given full autonomy to the police to act against corruption and they are free to take action even against the Chief Minister.

"We have started a war against corruption and it will continue," Sonowal said while interacting with a section of media and added that no one involved in corruption will be allowed to go free.

The Chief Minister's statement came a day after police arrested some officers of the Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and allied services for their involvement in the multi-crore cash for jobs scam.

A total of 18 such officers selected by the Assam Public Service Commission have been arrested since Wednesday.

Police said that a search is on for seven more such officials who made it to the APSC selection list by giving huge bribes.
