Gandhinagar, Nov 11: Taking credit for the Central government slashing tax rate from 28 percent to 18 percent, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi said that structural changes are needed in the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
“It was due to the pressure from Congress that BJP had to slash the tax rate. However, Congress won’t stop here. India doesn't want five different types of taxes, we want one,” he asserted while addressing a rally in Gujarat.
On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi while interacting with traders in Surat, assured that Congress will reassess and restructure the Goods and Service Tax (GST), if voted to power in the 2019 general elections.
He accused the Centre for making the making the uniform tax reform “complex” and said that Congress was against its implementation since the beginning and had cautioned the government. Modi too has realized his mistake and is unnecessarily making Congress a part of it, he alleged.
On his fourth visit to poll-bound Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi began his tour of north Gujarat by praying at the revered Akshardham temple, an unscheduled change in his plan, and visited the Patidar-dominated villages of the region.
He was warmly welcomed in the Patidar-dominated village of Majra with slogans of 'Jay Sardar' on his arrival. Gandhi sported a 'Patidar' cap during his visit to the village.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) vice-president, who arrived here on Saturday morning on a three-day visit, went on his scheduled visits of Chiloda and other places. On his way to Sabarkantha district, he stopped at a roadside 'dhaba' where he enjoyed the traditional dishes of Gujarat, like 'fafda' and 'gota'.
People turned up in huge numbers to have a look at the Gandhi scion.
In his corner meting at Chiloda, Gandhi emphasized on the role of women in election.
