New Delhi, Nov 13: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday revealed that the Gurgaon police derailed the probe of seven-year-old Pradyumn Thakur’s murder, by illegally destroying evidence.
Pradyumn, a student of Ryan International School was found with his throat slit, inside the toilet of the school premises on September 8.
On Wednesday, CBI made a shocking revelation that a class 11 student of the same school had committed the murder and gave a clean chit to the bus conductor.
Gurgaon Police Commissioner Sandeep Khirwar called upon the initial investigating team, who had arrested bus conductor Ashok Kumar for murder and stated that he tried to sexually abuse the child. Media reports state that the team admitted to the Commissioner that they made mistakes and were unable to explain on how they missed crucial evidence from CCTV footage which shows the class 11 student calling Pradyumn inside the toilet.
The CBI is investigating if the police had deliberately planted evidence as earlier they claimed that Ashok had taken the knife used for murder from the bus toolkit. According to CBI, the Gurgaon cops tried to frame Ashok and tortured him for a confession.
Pradyumn’s father since beginning had said that Ashok Kumar could not have executed the crime.
The family of deceased Pradyumn accused the police of botching up the investigation and said the CBI meticulously collected circumstantial evidences and facts. The victim`s family demanded that the juvenile student be tried as an adult and be given a harsh punishment.
The CBI said that the accused teenager confessed of committing crime to postpone the parents-teachers meeting and the exams in front of his father. Currently the student has been sent to Faridabad observation home where he will be kept until the next hearing in the case on November 22.
BJP influenced probe: Congress
Congress has held Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and BJP government in the state responsible for ruining the murder investigation.
"Pradyuman Thakur Murder - CBI points fingers at BJP politicians and minister for scuttling police investigation as CM Khattar hurriedly gives clean chit. Will justice be made a scapegoat at the altar of political expediency?," tweeted Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala attaching a news story with a headline CBI scans politicians' role in Ryan police probe.
