Margao, Jun 26: Following the rise in incidents of desecrating idols of god and goddesses by vandalizing the same, people of Sanguem and Quepem taluka have formed a committee to safeguard the holy places.

Recently some unknown miscreants had desecrated the idols of Someshwar temple at Shirvai-Quepem, around 18 kms from here. But no one has been arrested in this connection. Now the newly-formed committee named as ‘All Goa Temple Safeguard Committee’ has served ultimatum to police to nab the culprits in three days.  Any failure in this regard will see Hindus staging strong agitation and government will be fully responsible if law and order problem erupts.

Delegation headed by former MLA Prakash Velip met chief minister Digamber Kamat on Thursday June 26 and presented him the memorandum in this regard.

Incident of desecrating idols of Hindu lords are on rise in the last few years. But neither the state government, nor police are interested to nab the culprits involved in this connection. "We feel that government is not interested in solving such incidents," said Velip while addressing the press conference held in Lingayat Hall, Margao.

These incidents have hurt the sentiments of Hindus, he said further.
