Udupi: Student from Oman duped of USD 6,600 with fake admission letter

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi

Udupi, Nov 15: A student from Oman who came to Manipal to pursue undergraduate education has found to his utter shock that he has been duped.

Murthad Nadim Said Al Rawahi from Oman on Wednesday November 15 approached Manipal University for admission to BCom course.

However, the authorities later found that he had been duped, probably by an agent, with a fake letter of admission.

The student had already paid a fee of USD 6,600 (approx Rs 4.3 lac).

He came to India on student visa.

On the recommendations of Manipal University, the Udupi police is getting his student visa cancelled.

Murthad has been asked to leave India in three days with exit permit.

It is not known whether he was duped by an agent in Oman or in India.

He will lodge a complaint once he lands in Oman, said police sources.

Further investigations are on.

Here is very fishy .Usually when student goes to a foreign land for studies, they get a visa only after depositing money as blocked account in a bank ,in their country and thereupon visa is issued.where is the question of a agent?Did he gave the money to agent to deposit? Indian consulate must have given the visa.On his arrival money would be released from time to time ,in a account opened in his host country ,but not all at once.so Iknow.what went wrong here .Our Indian consulate or govt.could have tolerated him for some days till it is cleared ,but not throwout. He has a visa after all.Hope it will be cleared soon.and hope he doesnt belong to any links.

Instead of MU, had he approached DU/GU he would have had a bachelor's and a master's with the course/date of his choice in his bag by now.

NOBODY COULD BE BLAMED FOR SUCH LAPSE FROM HIS SIDE. THE PLACE WHERE HE PAID MONEY IS SOURCE. HE SHOULD APPROACH THE CONCERNED WITH WHOM HE HAD DEALT.
WE BLAME OURSELEVES AS IF ALL OMANEES ARE CLEAN AND ALL INDIANS ARE FAKE IS THE HEIGHT OF STUPIDNESS. MAY BE HE MIGHT HAVE COME TO INDIA WITH SOME OTHER INTENTION IN THE GUISE OF STUDENT VISA. A TIGHT VIGIL ON HIS MOVEMENT IS OF PRIME IMPORTANCE.

Its sad to know this. The authorities concerned should meticulously investigate and correct any flaws if any in this context. Catch the culprits and bring them to light, so that others too will learn a lesson.
We take up petty issues to the Core but ignore issues that are a MUST to fix.
Manipal is such a name on the World Map today has been tarnished with this incident. They too should look into this very seriously and come up with facts.
