Mangaluru: Smart City mission - Rs 216 crore released

Mangaluru, Nov 17: State urban development minister, R Roshan Baig, revealed that a total sum of Rs 216 crore has been released to the special purpose vehicle created under smart city scheme for Mangaluru. This includes grant from the central government and matching amount released by the state.

In reply to query raised by chief whip of the legislative council, Ivan D'Souza, at the ongoing legislature session at Belagavi on Thursday November 16, the minister informed that under the said scheme, the union government had released two crore rupees during the year 2015-16 and again Rs 109 crore for the year 2017-18. The state government on its part, contributed Rs 105 crore, he added.

He further stated that under phase 1 to 3 under Nagarothana scheme, projects worth Rs 300 crore are envisaged. Under this scheme, 259 works have been undertaken within the city corporation limits pertaining to first phase of proposals worth Rs 100 crore, he stated. "Out of 259, 257 works have been completed, while one is under progress. The other project has been shelved," he stated.

    This is nothing but appears to be daylight robbery! So many crores of rupees sanctioned and works undertaken but nothing seems visible to the people living here in Mangalore. Rather, life for the common man in Mangalore is getting from bad to worse. Or is an invisible Smart city being created which no one can see? Remember the story about the King and his invisible clothes! Why not come out with a detailed list of all works done from 2015-2016 till today towards Smart city. Be transparent, dont hide anything. Give details about location, works undertaken (give names of people and companies doing work) and amount spent. Let the people of Mangalore know whether they have been taken for a ride to nowhere!
    As already mentioned earlier, if the same corrupt and useless people who administer Mangalore city are implementing the Smart City project, then there is nothing to look forward to for Mangaloreans! Dont have any hopes, so no point in getting depressed when nothing happens!

    Smart City Funds being utilized, wow, can some one from Govt explain, what work has been done, where has it been done & details of the same.
    What Harshawardhan has mentioned in his comments is exactly what I am asking? It's whose money after all? where does it go once sanctioned ? we see not much work done in Mangalore city? where are the crores roaring in developments in Mangalore? can anyone enlighten me on this. can the Govt be transparent in this issue?

    Oh.Again figures in crores.But only talks, news,press meets only.Before making Mangalore Smart City why the officials and ministers can't complete these 2 flyovers in Pumpwell and Thokkotu,Why not making proper traffic signals? Last year one minister promised to fill all potholes on all roads of Karnataka.Where is now? First priority is this.If you go to Humpankatta ,you can see people crossing roads within a few centimetres from Vehicles with their hearts in hand.No proper overbridged to cross roads.When we will grow god knows.

    Where this amount will be utilised ? Just for one padil underpass they have spent 16 crore. I think even new equipment like jcb crane excavator were brought new still they could have saved . Crores for gov project dont have value 1 crore is like one lakh for them .

    Where can i find the list of 259 works. We being the people, should assess the completed 257 out of 259 works.

    When did the work start ?
    How much budget for each work?
    How much was the actual cost?
    What was the deadline ?
    When it was actually completed?
    And what is the status of Work-in-progress works?

    MLA's/MP's are getting salaries from our tax money.
    We monitor a daily worker 24x7, whom we pay just 500 rupees. But we dont even assess a worker whom we pay like in 50,000 and above.
    We need to give appraisal rating for our workers. (MLA's and MP's)

    The city is slowly turning into a mini Mumbai. Too many industries, too much immigrant population, too much traffic, pollution, sky rocketing real estate prices and most important - destruction of nature. Is anybody keeping tab on this development ? Do we really need this development ? For what ? Are our children going to benefit at all from this development or they will all be migrating to other cities for good as is the case now.

    By the way i want to meet the person who put Mangaluru on top of comfortable living index (If he is not bogus) and force him to live here for sometime and see the reality.
