Udupi: Positive developments soon - Suzlon Energy workers call off indefinite strike

Udupi, Nov 17: The indefinite strike launched by workers of Suzlon Energy, involved with manufacture of windmill equipment and rotor blades, having its plant near Padubidri in the district, has been called off. The strike had been undertaken after the company suddenly declared lockout without prior intimation all of a sudden.

Head of Suzlon Corporate operations at Pune, Vijay Asnani, promised to discuss the issue of withdrawal of lockout that had been declared on November 14 and come out a positive response by November 20. This assurance came at a meeting he held at Aspen Infra office at Padubidri on Thursday November 16 in which deputy commissioner of the district, Priyanka Mary Francis, and district superintendent of police, Dr Sanjeev M Patil, were present.

After Special Economic Zone's additional director general at Kochi central office, Ajai Kumar, additional deputy commissioner of SEZ Mangaluru, Shobheendra, Suzlon Corporate head, Vijay Asnani, district labour officer, M P Vishwanath and Ramamurthy, Suzlon officers, Anthony Philip and Dakshinamurthy, Aspen Infra Company's general manager, Ashok Kumar Shetty, INTUC district president, Ganesh Kotian, Dakshna Kannada district president, Manohar Shetty, Kaup block Congress president, Navinchandra J Shetty, taluk panchayat member, Dinesh Kotian and others held discussions with labour leaders of Suzlon, the workers agreed to withdraw stir in the presence of both deputy commissioner and superintendent of police of the district.

Vijay Asnani said that the company treats its workers as its own family members and asked the workers to get fully involved with manufacturing activitiy. He also asked them not to create piquant situation by issuing statements publicly.

    The lockout by Suzlon Energy management was illegal. That is why the workers went on an indefinite strike. I hope the issue will be amicably settled by the management and the workers.
