Bhimavaram: Sports Fiesta to celebrate nature bonding held at St Mary’s School

Bhimavaram (AP), Nov 22: Sports Fiesta was held to celebrate human connect to earth, plants, animals, and nature and to bring an awareness of the need to keep the environment clean and green, on November 17 at St Mary’s School, Bhimavaram.

The banner with words “Adopt the Rhythm of Nature to Develop Human Nature” loomed large on the billboard on the backstage as the theme of the entire programme. Responding to the call of “Laudato Si’ of Pope Francis, the kids performed: the earth day carol, wonders of nature, music in the earth,, keep fit with nature rhythm, and so on with colourful outfits as they celebrated the blessings of the created world as gifts from God and recalled the need to care for the earth, our common
home.

An estimated number of three thousand parents and guests witnessed the mass drills, sports and track events of nearly one thousand five hundred students who displayed their sporting skills rhythmically with music and dance for a four - hour long colourful carnival.

All of us can cooperate as instruments of God for the care of creation, each according to his or her own culture, experience, and involvements and talents. “Let us be kind; Clean up; All things in moderation; Make time for wonder;- are some of the key themes that popped up in the splendid show.

Chief guest M Suryanarayana Murthy, deputy district education officer of Bhimavaram Mandal stated that he felt he had just witnessed an Olympian Parade and appreciated the physical skills training of the students. Some local dignitaries too hailed the effort of the school to give life skills and healthy body education to students.

Sr Valsamma George, principal of the school in her report stressed the commitment of the school management to pass on the truth of human existence to the future generations of the society. She delineated the success stories of the student achievers in brief and sought the cooperation of the parents to carry forward the teaching and learning programme to prepare the next generation kids who will care for our common home, the earth and its environment.

Provincial of the Nirmala Sisters, Sr Amala Rani conveyed her heartfelt wishes to the students and wished them well in their studies. Sr Biji Philip, coordinator of the Nirmala Education Society also was present.

Each and every kid had a part in the show. Some in the singing of earth songs, some in the cultural dances of different states, some in the dumbbell, stick drills and Pyramid formation and some showcasing the sad plight of nature due to deforestation, each event made up of 200-300 students at a time. The closing ceremony pictured a heaven on earth scene when Mother Mary, the patroness of the institution appeared at the centre of the arena and blessed the kids who hailed her as the Star of the Sea while the school choir sang the school anthem with great gusto.

The speakers on the dais thanked the management of the school for caring for the local kids who live in a small township like Bhimavaram and training them with maternal solicitude to face the future, giving importance to physical fitness and surrounding environment.

Colourful festoons and write ups greeted the parents as they entered the school campuse who were thrilled to watch their wards perform round the clock shows displayed in the showground. Swachh Bharat and other related current social themes also were demonstrated as the kids in each batch wriggled and swooned with their gestures and exercises for over ten to fifteen minutes in every event display.

The programme ended with the vote of thanks and the National Anthem.
