Bangalore, Jul 2: Appointsments made to corporations and boards by the state chief minister B S Yeddyurappa as a means to appease legislators who feel belittled at not being made ministers, seem to have boomaranged. The move has fuelled the anger of several of the appointees and some of them have refused to accept the new jobs offered to them.
Anekal MLA Narayanaswami has long been nursing an ambition to become a minister. He and his followers had made public their angst against the chief minister's failure to induct him into the state ministry, by organizing rallies and agitations. Swami now feels humiliated at being offered the post of the chairmanshp of the Slum Clearance Board. Venting his ire, Swami said he is not willing to accept this post. "Party workers in my constituency want to see me as a state minister. But party leaders are overlooking my seniority and no one thought it proper to discuss with me before posting me to this board. People who have defected from other parties recently have got recognition at the cost of honest party workers like me. Henceforth, I will not accept any posts including ministership," he announced.
Chickmagalur MLA C T Ravi too was expecting to be made a minister. When the post of parliamentary secretary to the chief minister was offered to him, he reportedly declined it. So, the post went to C C Patil.
Minister for housing Krishnaiah Shetty has another problem at hand. He is uncomfortable at the appointment of G T Deve Gowda, a recent entrant into the BJP, as the housing board chairman. Once the housing board becomes a separate entity, the department will have nothing important to do and his powers will get pruned down, he rues.
Reportedly, women outfits within the BJP are said to be resenting the appointment of Pramila Nesargi as the chairperson of the State Women's Commission and that they have approached the state leadership and made their opposition to this decision known to the leaders.
The two people who took over charge of their designations without any semblance of unhappiness, are parliamentary secretaries to the chief minister, Ramdas and C C Patil, who were administered oath on Tuesday July 1 morning itself.
