Jamshedpur, Jul 3: A nine-member team of women mountaineers, led by Bachendri Pal, has climbed the 19335 ft Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa's Tanzania on June 29. Organised by the Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF), the first Indo-African expedition team covered the treacherous Machame route to scale the mountain, a Tata Steel press release said today.
Christina John Mlowe, a Tanzanian national working in Tata Africa sales unit, joined the team in Tanzania.
The team began climbing for the summit on June 28 night and reached the peak next morning after trekking continuously for nine hours, the release said.
The team is scheduled to arrive Delhi on July 6.
Apart from Pal, the team comprised Lovely Das (West Bengal), Rajal Patel (Gujarat), Sushma Bissa (Rajasthan), Parul Sah (Madhya Pradesh), L Annapurna, Premlata Agarwal, Chetna Sahoo, Anita Soren (all Jharkhand).
