Margao, July 3: A daring robbery in broad daylight at a bungalow in Cancona, near here, on Tuesday, saw robbers decamping with Rs 18,000, after tying up the lady of the house.

The incident occurred happened at Sheller-Cancona, which is just 500 meters away from the local police station. According to police, the robbery was at the bungalow of Pradeep Prabhudesai, owner of Prabhudesai gas services.

The pair of thieves allegedly sneaked into the house at around 10 am, apparently being aware of the fact that Pratibha, wife of Prabhudesai, would be alone at home. They rang the bell and when Pratibha answered the door, the duo tied her up in a room and ransacked the cupboards.

When they found the cash, they made a run for it, according to the police. Though sniffer dogs were pressed into service, they could not yield any results. Police also combed Pannsulle forest in hopes of finding some clue to the whereabouts of the robbers.

Rohidas Patre, deputy superintendent of police and police inspector Suraj Hallankar, rushed to the site and registered a ‘panchnama’. Cancona police are investigating the case.
