Mangaluru, Nov 27: Under the patronage of Padua College of Commerce and Management and Padua Center for Drama, Konkani religious drama 'Zhuz' written by Fr Alwyn Serrao, was staged at Padua College ground on Sunday, November 26. A huge crowd watched the play.

Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza, Bishop of Mangaluru and MLA J R Lobo were the chief guests.

Welcoming the gathering, Fr Alwyn said, "My previous dramas 'Pedru' and 'Adanv ani Yev' were well accepted by audience. People appreciated and lent me good support. Inspired by this, I wrote ‘Zhuz’. At the same time, I have also written another drama ‘'Mory Magdalene' which will be staged shortly. I have received immense support from the bishop of Mangaluru and other priests. People gave me financial assistance too and that has helped me. I have chosen drama as medium to spread the Gospel. Appreciation encourages me and hence I need your support in future also.”

Appreciating Fr Alwyn for his work, Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza said, “I have watched Fr Alwyn’s dramas earlier. He is doing an excellent job. It is not easy to write religious dramas. Every single word needs to be meaningful. Fr Alwyn has shown his talent in his previous dramas. So there is no doubt that ‘Zhuz’ also will be a great hit. I wish him the very best.”

MLA J R Lobo said, “Drama is one of the apt media to spread something good to people. It helps save language and spread the good word about it. Fr Alwyn is a calm and simple person. His thoughts are also very simple, filled with deep knowledge. His dramas give the message of Jesus Christ. It would be good if these dramas are translated into Kannada language. It will reach more people.”

The drama received applause every second scene. ‘Zhuz’ is a drama about two characters arguing on the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The characters are of a doctor and the second one is his own conscience. While the doctor’s conscience believes that Jesus had indeed resurrected after dying on the cross, the doctor refuses to believe the same.

‘Zhuz’ is written by Fr Alwyn Serrao and directed by Christopher Ninasam. Christopher himself has acted in ‘Zhuz’ along with Clenwin Fernandes, Kalakul.

Amazing script and excellent presentation.Throughly enjoyed the drama. The choice of words outstanding. Each dialogue was so effective kept me and I guess all the audience on their toes. I could see total involvement of the audience with the characters. Most importantly Fr Alwyn's intellect and ability to relate the historical facts with contemporary arguments and examples is exemplary of his depth of knowledge . Drama was contemporary in all means. Hats off to both the actors - flawless in delivery for nearly two hours and natural in performance . Their timings , delivery of dialogues simply superb. All in all a high quality performance. My appreciation and wishes to All who worked behind the scene, in front of the scene and around. Congratulations. Let there be more such performances.
