Mangalore: Environmental Clearance for MSEZ Rehabilitation Site

Mangalore, Jul 3: The State Environment Impact Assessment Authority has issued environmental clearance for constructing residential colonies for the rehabilitation and resettlement of evacuees of the land acquired by the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) at Kulai and Thokur villages. The clearance has been issued subject to the strict compliance of terms and conditions set out therein.

Some of the conditions specified by the authority include setting up of an environmental management cell, appointment of an environment and safety engineer during construction, provision of adequate drinking water and sanitation facilities, disposal of construction waste without in any way creating problems for the neighbourhood communities, testing of soil and groundwater samples and use of fly ash as building material.

Other important conditions listed by the authorities during the operation phase are installation of a sewage treatment plant with 16.5 MLD capacity, putting in place rain water harvesting facility, proper disposal of solid waste, disposal of biochemical waste as per rules, developing green belt and using solar energy, a press release explained.
