Mangalore, Jul 5: Nationalist Christians Forum president Franklin Monteio in a press conference held in the city on Friday July 4, urged the state government to enact a stricter legislation to protect the bovine animals and to set up an authority exclusively for ensuring protection of cows.
Expressing grave concern over the increasing number of cow trafficking and slaughter being reported of late in the district, the forum has asked the district administration to intiate suitable steps to curb the menace.
Efforts to hurt the sentiments of the majority Hindu community members through the above acts, are being resorted to with tacit support of Congress leaders. This may give rise to incidences of communal clashes in the district again, Monteiro said.
The forum has requested the superintendent of police to eradicate matka, video games, betting and other gambling activities that are on the rise in the district. Failing compliance, the forum will organise a protest in front of the office of the superintendent of police, he warned.
He decried some Christian organisations for engaging in the act of mud slinging on the Sangh Parivar outfits before the elections and working against the interests of BJP during the election and changing colours all of a sudden after the election, shedding crocodile tears about christians by meeting the chief minister. This exposes their shamelessness, he stated.
He asked Muslims and Christians from all over the country to unitedly pressurise the Jammu and Kashmir government to hand over 40 hectares of land to Amarnath shrine board. Joint convenors of the forum, John D'Souza Vittal, Vincent Kinnigoly and Deepak D'Mello Karkala were present.
