Udupi, Jul 6: B Karunakara Shetty, headmaster of Sri Mookambika High School, Kollur, under temple administration, has bagged the national excellent teacher award for this year.
He had bagged district and state award while serving as school headmaster since 7 years. He has been instrumental in imparting quality education in the underdeveloped village, owing to his background as post graduate in physical training and with the support of school managing committee.
The school has been surging ahead in studies with the support of managing trustee, old students, education department and generous contributions of devotees at the famous Sri Mookambika temple, Kollur which has enhanced the educational facilities for the all round development of students. He has been strongly committed to his profession in instilling discipline among the students. Several of his students are employed in MNCs both in India and abroad.
He has been encouraging the wide talents of students by forming various clubs in school, depending on their interest. He has been an accomplished state level Kabaddi player and reckoned for his organizing ability. He is the founder chairman of Udupi district physical training teachers association, president of undivided Dakshina Kannada district physical training teachers association, vice president of district head teachers association, founder president of Lions Club, Kollur and serving as member of DIET and several social welfare and voluntary association.
National award will be presented to Shetty by Her Excellency Pratiba Patil, President of India, in the national capital New Delhi on September 5.
