Mangaluru: Woman holds moneylender responsible for husband's suicide

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 3: Sujatha, residing near Kankanady Garody in the city, has complained to the town police station at Kankanady here, alleging that her husband ended his life by jumping into the river, having been unable to bear the harassment for payment of exorbitant interest on money borrowed by him from a money lender.

The woman said that her husband, Taranath, had borrowed Rs 2.50 lac by pawning the car he owned in August 2016 to meet financial existences. "The loan, raised from Pramod Pumpwell who belongs to Bajrang Dal, was repaid in 12 equal monthly installments of Rs 25,000 each. All this money was adjusted towards interest, and the car was sold to someone else without my husband's permission. Even after that, rowdies had been sent many a time to our house, seeking payment of additional interest. In addition to threatening us, he also had warned of eliminating us if we approached authorities for the redressal of our grievances," she stated.

Sujatha says that even her daughter faced harassment thereafter. Messages on cellphone were often sent, urging payment of interest. She claims that having been frustrated by this, her husband jumped into River Netravati and committed suicide on November 25. She holds Pramod Pumpwell and his accomplices entirely responsible for her husband's death and sought legal action against the accused.

A case stands registered in Kankanady police station based on this complaint.

It's her husbands mistake..... Normally money lenders will give loan without any security interest 1 percent per month. If she has paid 25000 per month than money lender has taken as interest only on the loan. When the borrowers don't have security than which bank will give him loan..... When he cannot afford any security than why he wanted car on money lenders money????? Fake fame that his family is travelling on his own car???? only thing is Government has ban such illegal money lenders. Bajrangdal or Ramasena , they are against others doing anything wrong. But Shobbaka will support them telling they are doing business.

What is happening in India today? Are we blinded by false prestige? Should we show that we are richer than what we really are? If you own a car of Rs. 10 lakh, the simple logic tells you that you should have minimum of 1 Crore in liquid cash in the bank, otherwise you cannot afford that car.
The unfortunate person in this case should have sold his car, taken the loss and get on with his life. By clinging to the car, he lost his life and passed on the liability to his surviving family.
I hope at least one person takes note of what I have written; otherwise it is a waste of time on my part as well as readers.

I do agree with you William. Now days people in order to compete with their relatives and neighbours borrow huge amount of loan with heavy interest for constructing new houses, buying vehicles and seeking admission in the prestigious colleges for their children without seeing repaying capacity. When they could not able to settle the borrowed money they will go into depressions and end up their life. One of my relatives who took small amount of loan from me 3-4 years back for building a house [though it was necessary since he had parents house] and outside he is saying I do not have any problem now I am settled and everything is alright. If everything is alright I was wondering why he is not repaying my loan [I never asked him]. One day my wife whispered that his wife revealed that they have borrowed huge housing loan for constructing house). I do not understand why people are going for show business [around 3-4 months back a goldsmith had committed suicide along with his wife and 2 daughters since he could not repay the loan he took from bank ).

Banks are not giving Loans to those who are in extreme need of money .They lend money depending on their repayment capacity .That is the worst part of the trade .

Very sad incident .Banks should actually help those needy people or else they will land in debt trap in the hands of crooked money lenders
Money lenders use all sorts of technique to recover high interest along with principle .

Now Bhakts will say that this woman is lying. They will do character assassination. In their blindness of hatred towards Minorities, Hindutva followers fail to see that all the Hindutva leaders are nothing but Goondas who are using the flag of religion to hide their illegal activities. No doubt wise men have said " VINAASH KALE VIPREET BUDDHI"

many such organisation's leaders mis use their power to threaten people.
they will lend money without much hassle but for the recovery they will charge heavy interest, and such people have strong support from political parties and public, so that no one can harm them.
let's see what will happen in this case, and will see reaction of sharan pumpwell in this matter. is he really care about people around him or he is just blind for his people's mistake.
still i am thinking if such matter happened with deceased and the other party is belongs to Muslim, till now might be we would expected road block and rallies.

When the borrower dies, even banks waive the loan off. Does no law apply to BD members ?

Well, can't blame now because the man followed lawlessness to borrow in need.

    Sister .
    Onji Nenpu dile.
There is no law for this kind of act its your husband and you lost everything.

You are a lady don't think you doesn't have the power to take revenge.

Remember Revenge is best meal when it served cold .

Look after your daughter till she get strong enough you prepare a plan for revenge.

Insaf miltha nahi enke jaisi logo se cheena padtha hai.

you may held guilty in front of law but not in front of GOD your not guilty.

But it must be served cold.

    @Sri,
If it is so, Bajrangi Pramod could have help Taranath to get cheaper loan from the Bank and he could have recover his money when the loan sanctioned to Taranath instead of taking his life. First of all Private lending is illegal and why this nationalist Bajrangi doing this private lending business??? Also he cannot threaten somebody, that also against the law. Which kind of nationalism this???
