Udupi, Jul 8: Fr G M Skaria, president of OSC Society, in compliance with an order passed by the district judge here, appeared in the court on Monday July 7 and was released after he furnished a bond of Rs 25,000.

Earlier, deposed history lecturer of SMS College Brahmavar Emmannuel Lalith Kumar, had approached the district court through a petition, charging the OSC Education Society that runs the college, with failure to comply with the orders issued by the state High Court to reinstate him as college lecturer.

Kumar, who had been dismissed by the college management from services, had succeeded in getting a favourable order from the High Court, when it upheld an earlier decision of the Education Appellate Tribunal of Udupi, after the SMS college management approached the High Court through a writ petition, with a request to quash the Tribunal's orders.

In a press release, Association of Mangalore University College Teachers president Joselyn T Lobo and president of the Federation of University College Teachers Associaitons of Karnataka A M Narahari stated that the Udupi district court issued an arrest warrant against the OSC Society president after Kumar moved a contempt petition against the society. The society president then deposited salary arrears of Kumar to the tune of Rs 3.94 lakhs in the court as directed by the court, the release claimed.
