Prisoner commits suicide in Andhra jail


Vijayawada, Dec 10 (IANS): An undertrial prisoner has committed suicide in a jail in Andhra Pradesh's Prakasam district, jail authorities said on Sunday.

The incident took place in the toilet of Darsi sub-jail on Saturday night when K. Ramesh (21) killed himself by hanging with his 'lungi'.

He was rushed to a government-run hospital but was declared brought dead.

According to jail superintendent Vasant Rao, Ramesh was in judicial custody in a case of theft. The reasons for the prisoner's extreme step were not known. Police have registered a case.
