Two held at IGI airport with gold worth Rs 14 lakh

New Delhi, Dec 10 (IANS): The CISF arrested two persons at the international airport here on Sunday on the charge of involvement in smuggling gold worth Rs 14 lakh, an official said.

Shahnawaz had arrived from Abu Dhabi about an hour before his arrest at the Indira Gandhi International Airport while the second accused was identified as cleaner Rajnish Pal, CISF Assistant Inspector General Hemendra Singh told IANS.

The two were arrested around 3.20 p.m. with four gold bars weighing 466 gram and concealed in a cigarette package.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) surveillance and intelligence staff detained Pal on suspicion, the official said.

"We became suspicious when we saw Pal gesticulating to Shahnawaz, who was standing inside the smoking room near the passenger waiting area. As soon as Shahnawaz handed over the cigarette package with gold bars to Pal, we caught them. The gold was handed over to the Custom Department along with the two accused," he said.
