Bangalore, Jul 10: In a swift operation, Chandra Layout police with the help of Devanahalli police nabbed an African national who allegedly cheated a Bangalore doctor. Police nabbed John K Greene Brown (32), who landed at the BIA at 10.30 pm from Delhi.

Police said that Brown, a native of Ghana in West Africa arrived by the Jet Airways flight on Tuesday night. The victim Dr Murali Krishna, a dentist and resident of Maruti nagar in Chandra layout had alerted the police about the accused who had come down to collect a large amount of money from the victim.

The incident occurred when the dentist’s father received an e-mail from Brown in October 2007, stating that he was an orphan and his father had left behind $7.5 million, which he wished to donate. The dentist’s father forwarded the e-mail to him.

The dentist who replied to the email was asked to deposit Rs 6.47 lakh to an account in Mumbai and Delhi in installments, which was clearance amount.

When he did not hear from Brown, he lodged a complaint at the Chandra Layout police station. Later, this year, when the dentist did not hear from Brown,he e-mailed him again and enquired about the money.

Police said that Brown replied back demanding another Rs 8 lakh. The dentist who figured out that he had been cheated and was falling prey to another fraud, played smart. He asked Brown to come to Bangalore to collect the money, to which Brown agreed.

On Tuesday night, when Brown landed in the BIA, the local police with the help of the CISF nabbed the culprit. Police produced him before the court and have sent him to judicial custody for one week.

Further investigations will take place, as this is a big racket and many people are involved in this, said the police.

Police said that the main accused behind the fraud, one Jahesha Sugar is absconding and the police are looking out for her.

Hey, Educated professional !! it is shame on him. All this happens out of greed and to become rich easy and fast!! I feel Dr. Murali Krishna should also be taken for task and but If Dr. Murali has recieved $7.5 M whether he would have approached Police to inform that he recieved illegal money i.e, money meant for charity was transferred to him?

People should be careful. These days even your CV is picked up from placement portals and jobs with lucrative salary are offered in foreign countries only to cheat you. Be careful. Do not pay any money for processing or visa or flight tickets by credit card or otherwise.

If it is too good to be true...then it probably is that!!! If you have not entered any contest, or know the sender of the email personally, PLEEEAAASE....do not respond to such crap. Such emails are sent in  thousands everyday, which originate in African countries, and they for sure know that at least one, if not more, person(s) will fall for it!
