Bangalore: Defeated Candidates Allege Electoral Malpractices

Bangalore, Jul 10: At a time when legislators are counting on the pros and cons of crossing over to the ruling party, three of the candidates who got defeated in the recent election, have approached the state High Court through petititons, praying for nullifying the elections of the winning candidates.

Kariyanna from the Congress, who got defeated by the BJP candidate K G Kumaraswami from shimoga rural constituency has in his petition, alleged that Kumaraswami had furnished false caste certificate at the time of filing nominations. The constituency is reserved for scheduled caste candidates.

Kumaraswami who belongs to Boyi community has falsely claimed to be belonging to Bowi community in his affidavit. All his earlier records say that he belongs to Boyi community. Hence, his election should be declared invalid, he has prayed.

K N Rajanna from the Congress, in his application against the winning candidate Gowrishankar from the JDS, who has been elected from Madhugiri assembly constituency has said, that Gowrihankar has committed malpractices like offering money to voters in exchange for voting in his favour, during the election. His petition has also reached the High Court.

Defeated BJP candidate from Kalghatgi constituency Nimbannavar has filed a petition,praying the High Court to declare the election of Santosh Lad from the Congress as void because of some alleged electoral malpractices.
