Maoists torch two vehicles in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Dec 11 (IANS): Maoist guerrillas opposing road construction work on Monday torched two vehicles in Jharkhand's Latehar district.

According to Police, guerrillas of the banned organisation, People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), raided a private company involved in road construction work at Madhuamilan village of Latehar district.

The private company is involved in road construction work of around five km under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

The guerrillas asked the labourers to leave and later torched one tractor and one JCB machine used for road construction, by pouring petrol. They also left a pamphlet claiming responsibility for the incident.

The denial of levy is said to be the reason for the attack.

Earlier on December 8, Maoist guerrillas torched six vehicles in Gumla district as part of their opposition to road construction activity, and had also left behind a pamphlet warning labourers to stay away.

Maoist guerrillas are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state.
