Ahmedabad, Dec 12 (IANS): Scheduled road shows of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress President-designate Rahul Gandhi in Gujarat here on Tuesday have been cancelled with the police refusing permission on the grounds of security and traffic congestion.
Both the principal opponents in the Gujarat Assembly elections had organised massive road shows by their key campaigners on the last day of electioneering for the second phase of polling for 93 out of 182 seats on December 14.
Polling for the rest of the 89 seats was held on December 9.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner A.K. Singh said the request for permission for the road shows had been rejected because of security concerns and the likely inconvenience to public.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had planned a 35 km day-long road show by Modi to take him through all the 16 constituencies in the city.
The Congress had also organised a similar event though through a different route.
While Gandhi's programme was still being firmed up late on Monday night, the BJP too, announced around 10 p.m. that Modi would be taking a special sea-plane from the Sabarmati river and travel to the famous pilgrimage Ambaji Temple by road after landing on the Dharoi dam waters in North Gujarat.
The Prime Minister would return to Ahmedabad around 2.30 p.m. by the same route, though it was not announced if he would conduct any more public meetings in the city or anywhere else in central and North Gujarat where the second phase of polling is to take place.

Amit shah has lost his moral right due to his sons business and PM has never delivered anything so far other then speeches and faulty implementations

Tue, Dec 12 2017Good ! These road shows are like students scanning through their book one last time before the exam starts.
Enough gentlemen, people have made up their mind already about whom to vote. Your road show is not going to change anything. What is a good news is that in a BJP ruled state, both the parties' schedule is cancelled, indiscriminately.
I wish the same rule applies to EVMs too !

Tue, Dec 12 2017Some educated people are talking like uneducated in india and they believed like still indira gandhi is alive and vote for her party. if one party is already fixed with EVM deal why they should try for 100% efforts during election to win the voters. what happened to LS 2014 which was under now opposition.
Please be practical,
Be a supporter of any who develop not do scandal, irrespective of party

Tue, Dec 12 2017KVP,
DW readers are not Indira timers, they have read what happened in Ghorakpur. An independent candidate voted for herself but the result for her candidacy showed 0. Who swallowed up hers and her supporters votes ? Granted - nobody voted for her - what about her own vote ?
Yes, being practical, at the same keeping a tab on what is happening around especially BJP ruled states. Gujarat, of-course, is one of them.
