MANGALORE, Jul 11: Girls have outshone boys in the degree examinations conducted by Mangalore University in April/May this year.
Of the 6,213 girls who appeared for the examination, 5,372 passed (86.46 per cent), whereas 2,828 boys of the 3,876 who appeared passed (72.96 per cent). The overall pass percentage is 81.27 with 8,200 out of 10,089 students having passed the examination, according to a press release from the Registrar (Evaluation) of the university here.
Students from Udupi have been more successful than their counterparts in Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts. In all, 2,649 out of 3,208 students from Udupi passed (82.57 per cent) as against 4,915 out of 6,016 in Dakshina Kannada (81.69 per cent) and 636 out of 865 students (73.52 per cent) in Kodagu district. Results have been announced for BA, B.Sc. B.Com and BSW courses.
Girls have fared better even in the course-wise results. In the BA course, the overall pass percentage is 89.04 (4,039 of the 4,536 who appeared passed). This includes 2,832 out of 3,055 girls (92.70 per cent) and 1,207 out of 1,481 boys (81.49 per cent).
In the B.Sc. course, the overall pass percentage is 78.98 (1,334 of the 1,689 who appeared passed), including 1,010 out of 1,220 girls (82.78 per cent) and 324 out of 469 boys (69.08 per cent).
The overall pass percentage in the B.Com course is 73.16 (2,827 of the 3,864 who appeared passed), including 1,530 out of 1,938 girls (78.94 per cent) and 1,297 out of 1,926 boys (67.34 per cent).
BSW results
In all, 69 of the 81 students who appeared for the BSW examination, passed. They include 41 of 44 girls and 28 of 37 boys. The overall pass percentage is 85.18.
While Alva’s College, Moodbidri, has registered 100 per cent passes, St. Aloysius College, Mangalore, and School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore, have registered 69.69 per cent and 94.73 per cent passes respectively.
