Mumbai, Dec 18: BB Chavan, deputy director of education, Mumbai division, has asked the BMC to probe the absence of class VIII at Ayodhya Nagar municipal school in Chembur due to which 71 class VII students had to take admission in private schools.
Chavan's letter dated December 5 said by not providing class VIII at the school, the civic body had violated provisions of the Right to Education Act 2009. Section 6 of the Act stipulates the government or local authority to establish schools within a period of three years of the commencement of the Act. RTE, which provides for free elementary education to children from six to 14 years, came into force on April 1, 2010.
