Mangaluru, Dec 19: After receiving numerous accolades for 'Mog Asom', a highly appreciated music album in the Konkani world, the duo Joel Rebello and Darrel Mascarenhas are all set to release their dream album ‘Mog Asom 2’ which is considered to be one of the high budget albums in Konkani music.
The album will comprise originals composed by Joel and Darrel and a few re-makes of some of the all-time famous Konkani songs by the legendary composers of the Konkani music industry. The album is going to be a musical treat with contributions from some of the finest musicians across the globe, and with the mixing-mastering being done in one of the best equipped and advanced technology graded studio in the USA by none other than Darrel Mascarenhas himself.
Joel and Darrel
Since childhood, Joel was actively involved in the entertainment sector. He has been the Backing Vocalist for Lucky Ali of the Bollywood fame. Joel was the only vocalist chosen from India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka (Winning Band) for the Money Gram International Cricket for Peace initiative during Cricket World Cup 2011. Performing for over 200 stage shows at various platforms, he continues to keep the audience enthralled and swinging to his music till date. Currently he works as a Promo Producer and Programmer for Radio Commercials at 92.7 Big FM – Mangaluru.
Darrel has left no stone unturned with his unmatchable achievements. He graduated with the honour of being awarded the “Advanced Achievement Award” at Full Sail University, USA, where he obtained his Degree in Recording Arts. Darrel has produced the background score for documentaries and worked as an assistant for movies, namely “Minions”, “Batman Vs Superman” as well as for famous TV Series such as “Burn Notice” and “State Affairs” and as a Composer for the series “Desperate Housewives”.
He has worked as a Mix and Mastering Engineer and Music Programmer for various albums, namely “Un-masked” released under the banner of Universal Record Music and many more in different languages. He won the award of “Best Music Arranger” at the Mandd Sobhann, Konkani Global Awards as well as the “Audience Choice Award” for “Best Music Editing” for the 48-hour film project, “Soundtrack---The Next Step”. He currently holds the position of Music Composer/Sound Designer at Video Gaming Technologies, Inc. (VGT) at Reno, Nevada in the USA.
Joel Rebello and Darrel Mascarenhas have together produced the campaign theme song titled “Namo” for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They have produced music and rendered their voice for TV Commercials of leading banks such as State Bank of India, Union Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Karnataka Bank, Dena Bank and many more and have also composed and produced caller tunes for Corporation Bank, Karnataka Bank and UCO Bank.
Joel and Darrel have also produced music for various products branding such as Campco chocolate, OXY face wash (Japans No.1 brand- Rohto), IANT and many more. They have performed at “MTV Roadies- Season 7”. Adding another feather to their cap was being awarded the “Winning Band” at the Money Gram International - Cricket for peace Initiative, Being #1 in Karnataka State and #2 internationally for their Single “Aao Gao” for Cricket World Cup 2011. Their television commercial for Canara Bank won the Silver Award from the Public Relations Council of India.
They have worked with legends such as Remo Fernandes, Usha Uthup and Guru Kiran. The duo continues to capture hearts and minds of people across the globe with their excellent music.
Getting Konkani music legends on one platform
“We are glad that a lot of Konkani legendary composers like Alex Madtha- Puttur (Ye Ye Kathrina fame), Henry D’souza, Eric Ozario (Mandd Sobhann), Patrao Brothers ( Anil and John Patrao), Melwyn Peris have contributed to Konkani Industry. We have been listening to these legends from our childhood and today an effort is made to bring back these composers under one roof in Mog Asom 2”, says the Joel.
“We are proud and happy to say that the Bollywood singing sensations Armaan Mallik, Bappi Lahari, Gonzaga Coutinho, Usha Uthup have rendered their voice for 'Mog Asom 2'. Most of these are singing in Konkani for the first time. Sandalwood music magician Gurukiran is also part of the album with a song. Melwyn Peris, Silvia Fernandes, Gina Bragin, Jayne Rebello are the other singers who have rendered their voice to the album. This Album is a tribute to all legendary singers, music composers and lyricists in Konkani world,” says Darrel.
Beside this, Joel and Darrel have also sung for 'Mog Asom 2' .There is one Spanish song 'Como Quisiera' sung by Gina Bragin. The album includes a 15 minutes Sinhalese Baila and 15 minutes Brass band Baila played by Sunshine Band Perampally.
The Album contains the lyrics of Wilson Kateel, Alex Madtha, Henry D Souza, Ajith Peter D'Souza, Patrao Brothers, Shridhar Kamath and Jayne Rebello
Darrel himself programmed all rhythms and music for the album. Ralph Roshan played acoustic and electric guitars. Nigel Simon and Prajwal Frontiero played all horns and woodwinds. Kenny Pereira and Maclean D Souza played Soprano sax and alto sax respectively. Oscar Weltha was in tenor sax.
All songs of Mog Asom 2 are mastered by Darrel Mascarenhas.
Release on Christmas Eve
The album is set to release at over 50 different points across the world on December 24, 2017. Cordel Church is the main releasing venue and release is scheduled after the Christmas Mass. Kannada music sensation Gurukiran will release the album. The album will be available on digital platforms from January 2018.
