Hubballi: 'Anant Kumar Hegde is uncultured' says Siddaramaiah

Hubballi, Dec 25 (Agencies): Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday December 25 hit back at union minister Anant Kumar Hegde for suggesting that BJP would 'change' the Constitution and that secularists had 'no pedigree'.

The CM in his strong response called the BJP MP 'uncultured'.

"Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde is uncultured. He doesn't know parliamentary or politically-correct language. He is unaware of the country's social systems, and has no respect for the Constitution," the CM said.

The CM was speaking at the Congress rally in Hubballi.

"People of various religions live India, but Hegde is opposed to secularism. He speaks anti-secular language. It is impossible to turn a secular country like India into a Hindu Rashtra," Siddaramaiah said.

"The Constutition was drafted and adopted long before Hegde was born, and the entire country has accepted it. All religions in India have equal rights and opportunities. The union minister does not have such basic knowledge," the CM said.

Lingayat issue

When asked about the opposition to the expert panel constituted to look into Lingayat issue, the chief minister clarified that he had not formed the panel, but the minority commission formed the committee after five petitions related to the issue received by the government were handed over to it.

"We are not dividing religion, we follow Basavanna and believe in humanitarian values. Let the Panchacharyas clarify whether they are in favour of Basavanna or not," he said.

BJP reaction

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Jagadish Shettar said Hegde's statement was misinterpreted.

"He spoke about the need for bringing amendments to the Constitution in tune with the changing times and not about changing the basic structure of the Constitution," Shettar said.

MP Pralhad Joshi said there was no question of changing the Constitution as Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself had said our Constitution was great and supreme.

Siddaramaih has spoken the truth in this case. It is a fact that A K Hegde's statements and actions have left a very bad taste in the mouth. They are far from the generally accepted forms of behaviour. His utterances and body language have shown him in very poor light. If this is the kind of ministers we are going to have, I am sorry that will leave a very bad impact on the impressionable minds of our children.

He spoke about indian secularism and its preacher's double standard is correct.
Secularism means there is no religion of country,or cast all are equal before the constitution, such being the case why these preachers not objecting special quotas, special reservations and special treatment on the basis of one cast and religion??
Ok it was required during the sage of drafting of constitution, but why it being continuined even after 6 decades?

What can we expect from 'Sanskari' BJP who abuse everyone who oppose their policies?

CM Siddaramaiah and Congressfor the sake Kannadigas please don't fall into the trap of BJP by answering their abuses. Just give one dossier everyday on 'development' which they have promised to the nation in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Also give awareness on BJP corruption to the citizens of Karnataka.

We don't Kannadigas don't want Mandir-Masjid or Shamshan-Kabristan politics visiting Pakistan everytime to woo the voters.
All we need is employment, infrasture, shelter, peace and respect to all citizens regardless of their caste or creed.

Just because you fabricated a story and enacted by your goons about speaking rubbish about Hindu gods the whole constitution doesn't has to change for that sake. There is law and order in the state to take care of that. More over juts as you said Anant Kumar has freedom of speech so does it applies to all the citizens of India.

    Swamy
Freedom of speech has some restrictions and you cannot abuse
any religion or give false statements .here Hegde has not abused
any religion /caste.more over her praised who ever proud of his own
religion either Muslim, Christan or Hindu.
So don't abuse n the name of FOE
Constitution is not rigid and it has been amended so many times
and it should reflect the wishes of people depending upon the times and
    situation

Earlier some Nagpur think tank said all who live in Hindustan are Hindus..., while i fully agree with such ideology.., it makes me wonder by such definition even beef eaters also a Hindu's...!!!!

Those who call for change of Constitution need to under go their DNA test to prove their legacy & belonging to this great country.
