Mangaluru, Dec 30: Dakshina Kannada superintendent of police (SP) Sudheer Kumar Reddy has responded to the news of head constable allegedly drinking liquor inside Beltangady police station. He has come up with a clarification.
A photo of head constable Honnappa Gowda sitting in front of liquor bottle had gone viral in social media and also appeared in media.
The SP has sent the clarification as below:

A preliminary enquiry was conducted and the following facts are found from the enquiry -
1. The photo shown in news and social media was taken on October 11 this year.
2. The liquor bottle was brought to the station by Nicholas on the way to his quarters. Nicholas had his birthday on October 11.
3. Nicholas kept the liquor bottle on the table where another constable was sitting and someone at that time took the photo. Subsequently Nicholas took the bottle home.
4. No one had consumed liquor inside the police station on that day. Close observation of the photo also reveals it.
5. Another constable Danny had collected the photo and got it posted along with some others to insult and defame some innocents.
“Bringing a liquor bottle to police station and trying to defame others without the knowledge of superiors are acts of indiscipline. Disciplinary action is initiated against both after a detailed enquiry,” says SP in the clarification.
“Honnappa Gowda and Lawrence who were portrayed in bad light in the media were doing their duty and are found to be innocent. The detailed enquiry will reveal all facts and also the intention of publishing a photo taken in October now. The innocent constables are permitted to take legal action against those who tried to defame and malign them,” the clarification concludes.
