Video of Karnataka police officer thrashing two with leather strap goes viral

Koppal, Jan 6 (Deccan Chronicle): A video of a police officer brutally thrashing two men with a leather strap at a Karnataka police station went viral on social media on Friday.

The two men were brought to the police station after being accused of violating traffic rules and misbehaving with the police.

The police officer then proceeded to violently striking their hands with a leather strap. After the first strike, one of the men doubled down and started wincing in pain, the video shows.

Another police officer is then seen coming forward to force the other man to take the beating, who stretched out his hands and the officer whipped his hand as well.

The shocking incident occurred in Koppal, 350 km from Bengaluru where the police had made special traffic arrangements expecting a huge gathering outside a local temple.

On disobeying these special traffic rules, the police Sub-inspector, who was on duty at the time, hauled the two men to the Koppal Urban Police station, where the flogging took place.

The officer then started shouting at them in Kannada, saying "Hold out your hands" and then resorted to thrash them.

"I have heard about the incident but I am yet to see the video clip. I will take suitable action once I see the video," Koppal district's Suprintendent of Police Anil Shetty told the media.

THIS KIND OF ACTION POLICE SHOULD APPLY WITH OUR MANGLORE CITY BUS DRIVERS WHO THINKS THEY ARE PILOTS. BUT TRAFFIC ISSUES I WAS THINKING WHICH COMES UNDER ONLY TRAFFIC POLICE. INSTEAD BEATING THEY CAN CHARGE FINE OR FILE A SUIT IN COURT.

ALSO THERE IS PROVISION, IF POLICE FOUND GUILTY, THEY CAN BE SUSPENDED AND THEY CAN BE PUT IN BEHIND BAR. NOW A DAYS POLICE STAFF INSTEAD CATCHING CRIMINALS, THEY ARE MUCH INTERESTED CATCHING SEAT BELT AND HELMET NON WEARER. I HEARD SEAT BELTS RULES APPLY ONLY ON HIGH WAYS WERE DRIVING ABOVE 100KM SPEED. WHERE AS TRAFFIC POLICE APPLY CHARGING FINE EVEN VILLAGE PANCHAYATH AREA.

The goons deserve that type of punishment as they do not understand civilized procedure(Law). If not treated the way they are treated now, they may break traffic rule and takeout precious lives of innocent road users.

Barbaric act by policemen... Shows what training they got while recruitment... You can file case on any person who breaks the law... don't beat with rude objects.... think if same thing is done to your own family members,,... how do this policemen react ?? We could view such incidents only thru social media and latest mobile technology and it is hoasted in public domain... If this medium is absent, we could not have seen such acts played by police in stations....

Beating traffic violators cannot be justified. We live in a democratic society is not acceptable. We are not living in North Korea or saudi. Here for every offence law has pescribed penalty or punishment accordingly with lots of sence.
