New Delhi: In a first, 32 women to go on Haj without male guardians

New Delhi, Jan 8 (Zee News): For the first time, 32 Muslim women are all set to leave for Haj pilgrimage without a male guardian or relative.

Out of these 32 women, 12 are from Lucknow, 12 from Kanpur, four from Amethi and Gonda each.

Earlier, the Ministry of Minority Affairs had said that Muslim women aged above 45 will be allowed to go for the pilgrimage without 'mahram' or male guardian in a groups of four.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his last Mann ki Baat radio address on December 31, 2017, had said the government has removed the restriction that made it compulsory for women to travel with a male relative or guardian.

The decision was taken after hundreds of women applied for travelling alone for Haj, said Modi.

"I am happy to note that this time about 1300 Muslim women have applied to perform Haj without 'mahram' and women from different parts of the country from Kerala to north India, have expressed their wish to go for the Haj pilgrimage," he had added.

The Centre's move to allow women above 45 go on Haj did not go down well with some Muslim clerics.

“If you want equality, why don't men and women carry pregnancy for 4.5 months each,” the Secretary of Jamiat Ulama had said.

Peacelover, .fact is SHAH BANO won the case in SC nearly two decade back but Congress due to vote bank reversed its stand..its not BJP, its a Muslim Congress MP who faught back.. Arif Mohd khan, cabinet minister resigned to his post & Party membership...

He continued representing Shah bano in SC..Congress should have started so called study of Pro/con two decade back when they took U turn..now they want to study it!!..I dont know much about TTL, but whenever there is talk of reforms in your community always Congress acts as spoiler whether its modernisation of Madarasa, Waqf property scams, acting on Terror sympathisers, Yoga so on..known enemy is alway better than hidden unknown enemy..

Shabanoo case was for the amount of allowance ... not for talaq .....do not mix up the things and make kichadi ..... Half knowledge is always dangerous .... Cong is asking for the study of this bill by expert committee ...what is wrong in that...there are some weak points ....

the bill has provision for the allowances to be paid to the divorsed woman once the husband is sent to jail ,,In the Loksabha Ravi shankar prasad was asked , what should be the amount .. he was stammerring.

finally he replied that the judges will decide ...why the judge has to decide. why the bill can not define the amount NOW ???? like this there are many short comings... let these be corrected and every one will welcome it .....
No one is opposing tooth and nail this bill as modi was opposing Adhar card before May 2014 ... Now adhar is Holy book for him ....

Those muslims who wants to send their mothers, sisters or daughters without Mahram must read carefully below authentic hadees and judge yourselves on your furrther action.
It was narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allaah and the Last Day to travel for the distance of one day and one night except with her mahram.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari (1038) and Muslim (133). According to al-Bukhaari (1139) and Muslim (827), from the hadeeth of Abu Sa’eed: “The distance of two days.”

Earlier, Muslim women could not leave from India alone for Haj even if Saudi allowed them. The minority appeasing Congress govt. at the center then listened to some Mullahs and did not allow women to go to Haj without the company of males!!

Modi should stop lying. A Muslim Woman less than 45 years of age still can't go to Haj without Mehram. And 1300 woman who've applied are above 45 years and they should go in groups. Not alone. And this is Saudi rule, nothing to do with Indian rule.

This is called FEKUGIRI KI INTEHA !
Saudi Government relaxed Mahram rule in 2014, woman can travel alone if she is above 45 and travelling in a GROUP.
In spite of the relaxation given in 2014, if woman (45+) travelling alone to Hajj in 2018, this the matter of incompetency in implementing the approved policy.
This is the matter of enquiry on 4 years delay, not the matter of appreciation.

..well then why Jamiat Ulama India crying & giving absurbd statement like "if Govt wants equality, why don't men and women carry pregnancy for 4.5 months each"!!..if rule is already there since 2014, KSA allowed then why so much hue & cry saying MODI Govt interfering in faith!!..I think eventhough KSA relaxed ruled, there is pressure not amend Indian rules but MODI govt didnt heeded..matter of appreciation..dont you think..same with TTL..if more than 10 Islamic countries incl., pakistan banned TTL, then i dont think MODI Govt interfering in faith..

First try to understand what is the difference between triple Talaq and instant Triple Talaq. INSTANT Triple Talaq is already BANNED by supreme court and all including Muslim welcome that.

Muslim ulema cry because certain clause in the bill will HARM MUSLIM WOMAN MORE THAN THE BENEFITS. The bill was not studied well prior to presenting. What congress and other parties demand was to refer the bill to the select committee as happens while prior to passing the any other bills, but Modi government is adamant and they do not want to send the bill to select committee and take their opinion.
If the intention of the government was really to help Muslim woman, then they must study all pros and cons prior to passing any bill. They want to do everything in hurry, to get the political mileage.
