AHMEDABAD, Jul 25: It was a classic case of love at first chat. A 22-year-old girl from Vastrapur has flown from home to join her online boyfriend from Kolkata.

The hapless parents of the girl have approached the Vastrapur police and a hunt is on, but the girl has not been traced yet. Further deepening the cops' predicament, the girl's parents could not say much on the boy's profile.

Vastrapur police have registered a non-cognizable offence, since the girl is an adult, and have contacted Kolkata police to inform them about this elopement and about the condition back home.

According to Vastrapur police, Sunita (name changed), is the daughter of a furniture dealer. A graduate, she was taking computer lessons for past one year. Seeing his daughter's capabilities, her father bought her a computer and also got an internet connection. She used to spend her spare time on the internet.

"She had informed her family members about a youth whom she met on the chats. However, her family members did not approve of it. When the family members approached us, she had already boarded a flight to Kolkata around 3 pm on Wednesday. We told the parents that she is an adult and can have her own say about her life. However, as they were worried about her safety, we informed Kolkata airport police about the girl," said PM Raval, inspector in-charge of Vastrapur police station.

However, when the officials checked out with the Kolkata police, they told the officials that if the girl did not want to come back and could not force her to fly back home. Raval told TOI that they have not heard from the officials ever since. The parents of the girl would leave for Kolkata on Thursday to find her, said officials.

Raval added that there is a probable love angle but investigation can reveal more details. The family members of the girl came to know of her departure when a family member called her. Sunita, however, informed them that she was going to Kolkata to meet a 'friend'.

What an act of foolishness. This is what is called as immaturity. What more will parents do. They support their children but it is very disheartening when something like this happens.
