Mangalore: DC Undertakes Visit to Koraga Colonies

Mangalore, Jul 27: In a surprise move, Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner(DC) M Maheshwar Rao, accompanied by a posse of officials, chose to visit various Koraga colonies in the district on Friday, July 25.

During the visits, he went to several houses belonging to Koraga community members located in Tovoor in Kotekar panchayat, Montepadav in Manjanadi, Kottolike and Shutta in Naringana and Kuppepadavu in Balepuni village. At Tovoor, he sat down in the house of Chikkataniya and lent an ear to the problems being faced by Koragas. When he was told that a house, reserved exclusively for Koragas, was given by Manjanadi panchayath to some one else, he inspected the relevant records and asked the concerned to initiate steps to set right the mistake.

The DC was told that people from other communities are residing in sites allotted to Koraga families. Reacting to this, the DC asked the tahsildar to look into the complaints and ensure that the scheme meant to benefit Koragas is not misused.

Bantwal tahsildar c N Manjuinath, gram panchayat presidents Nayana and Joseph, Koraga leaders Kamala, Bhagi, Chikka Taniya and Seena, Jana Shikshana Trust directors Krishna Moolya and Sheena Shetty, revenue officials and gram panchyath secretaries accompanied the DC during his visits.
