Mangalore: Minister Palemar Issues Stern Warning to Lenient Officers

Mangalore, Jul 27: District-in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar assured that efforts were on to fill 159 long standing vacancies at the zilla panchayat level, the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), and in other departments. He was speaking at the inaugural of the interactive people’s meet held at the Town Hall here on Saturday, July 26.
Palemar said that the meet was not for publicity’s sake but was an effort to redress people’s grievances and to help them avail of benefits due. This can be successful only when officers and people’s representatives are honest in helping take the benefits to deserving families, he added.
Palemar criticized those officers who were absent from the meet and said that the administration of several departments including the MCC was in dire need of improved efficiency. He advised shirking officers to seek transfers to distant locations and assured the gathering that in future disciplinary action would be taken against officers who are not present at such public meets.
Palemar did not forget to commend the revenue department personnel for getting back on track with regard to their duties. Traditional musical instruments, allotted by Kannada and Sahitya Parishad under special unit and tribal scheme, were distributed to SC/ST beneficiaries with the objective of preserving their indigenous music.
Benefits were also distributed to eligible individuals under Sandhya Suraksha scheme, old-age pension scheme, widowers’ allowance plan, physically handicapped allowance, homeless families, compensation for natural calamities scheme, national family welfare scheme, and Bhagyalaxmi scheme for health.
The general public also submitted petitions to the minister related to their grievances against various departments. The meet was presided over by Yogish Bhat, MLA. Sucharita Shetty, president zilla panchayat, Sushma Janardhan, former president zilla panchayat, U T Khader, Ullal MLA, Sriyala J Hegde, president, taluk panchayat, Raju Mogaveer, tahsildar, and officers of various departments, were present.
