Bantwal, Jul 29: The Ganiga community which has been active in every sphere, essentially needs to own an educational institute in the taluk, since they are genuinely interested in education, said B Ramanath Rai, former minister and MLA, on Sunday, July 27.
Rai was at a programme organized by taluk Ganiga Seva Sangh at Sumangala Kalyana Mantap, Panemangalore, to distribute scholarships. He assured financial assistance for the setting up of an educational institute by the Seva Sangh. Rai also said that he would work towards inclusion of Ganiga community under backward category 1 from the current 2 A.
Scholarships worth Rs 2.25 lac was distributed to deserving students. Vasanti Gangadhar, municipal member, and Sujata Madhu, civil judge, were honoured for their achievements in public service.
The programme was presided over by B Manjunat Mayya, president of the Sangh. A K Sundar Salian , proprietor, Mangalore Mangala Arts and Printers, distributed free notebooks to high school students. Entrepreneur Surendra Shriyan of Bangalore, Madhav S Salettoor, president, district Ganiga Sangh, and M Vishwanath were the chief guests.
Kannur Narayan Sapalya, president, Mangalore Ganiga Sangh, B M Kamalaksha, president, Manjeshwar Sangh, Hariramachandra, president, Puttur Sangh, Laxman Tailor, president, Ullal Sangh, M Narayan Sapaliga, president, Mundkoor Sangh, Sadashiv Bangera, president, Moodbidri Sangh, Bhaskar S Yedapadav, president, Mijar Yedapadav Sangh, Sankappa Sapaliga, president, Asaigoli Sangh, Nonayya Sapaliga, vice-president, Malali Sangh, K Vasu Sapalya, Sangh vice-president, and Dr H P Sapaliga, treasurer, were amongst those present on the occasion.
Umesh Bolantoor, Sangh chief secretary welcomed the gathering while journalist Jayanand Peraje, and Padmanabha Fajeer, introduced the felicitated personalities. M Venkappa Sapalya, director, Sumangala Credit Society, and Mohan K Shriyan, joint secretary, compered the programme.
