Panaji: Two-day National Sahitya Akademi Writers’ Meet Concludes

Panaji, Jul 29: A Western and Southern Writers’ Meet organized by the National Sahitya Akademi at the black box of Goa Kala Akademi concluded on Sunday, July 27, with a poetry session. Poems on different themes were presented by the poets along with their English and Hindi versions. 

The two-day meet saw reading of papers on ‘Towards New Drama’, and so also short story presentations. Prominent amongst those featured were Vayalar Vasudevan Pillai, V B Deshpande, and Thomas Mathew.


Noted Goan poet Yusuf A Sheikh, reciting his famous Konkani composition ‘O re soi’ at the Meet of Writers organized at Goa Kala Akademi in Panaji.


The closing ceremony had noted Konkani poet Yusuf A Sheikh regaling the audience with his famous composition in Konkani language entitled ‘O re soi’ and a touching poem on awareness. Other participating poets included Jatush Joshi (Gujrati), V M Girija (Malyalam), Tullumulli Sudhaker (Telugu), Rohitodas Sharma (Hindi), Vimmi Sadarangani (Sindhi), and Chandrakant Patil (Marathi) who chaired the session and also presented a touching Hindi poem he composed.

Earlier poetry sessions included Kavita Rai (Kannada), Arun Sakhardande (Konkani), and Goverdahan Sharma (Sindhi). Goan literary luminaries Nagesh Karmali, Pandharinath Damodar Lotlikar, Fr Feroz Fernandes, editor ‘Vauradeancho Ixtt’,  Prakash Padgaonkar, Ashok Chodankar, Shakuntala Bharne, Dilip Borkar, Pundalik Naryan Naik, convener, and Damodar Mauzo, member, executive committee, were also present. The meet had been inaugurated by noted writer Arun Sadhu.
