Bengaluru: CM Siddaramaiah’s meeting with Muslim clerics kicks up row

Bengaluru, Feb 3: Chief minister Siddaramaiah’s meeting with some Muslim religious leaders has kicked up a storm on Friday, February 2 after it was revealed that Siddaramaiah urged them to ensure Muslims do not vote for JD(S).

Siddaramaiah is learnt to have held a long meeting with some clerics at Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader's residence on Thursday night. Though the photographs of this meeting were aired by news channels, it did not become big news until it was revealed what Siddaramaiah spoke in the meeting.

Siddaramaiah apparently called on the religious leaders, known as Ulemas, to ensure Muslim votes do not get split between the Congress and the JD(S).

Sources said that Ulemas aired concerns in the meeting regarding Muslim ministers ‘doing little’ for the betterment of Muslim community.

JD(S) leader Ramesh Babu has reacted strongly to the news of Siddaramaiah urging the Ulemas not to vote for JD(S). He accused Siddaramaiah of indulging in ‘cheap politics by misleading the Muslim community.’

    Mr. Nayak, I agree with you. I have saying all the while, that we minorities should 'shift' towards Mr. Owaisi this time. Lets give him one chance in Ktaka, They think about us only during votes. Even the

    ours is a secular country as per constitution
    but, for votes- everything is important- religion, caste, minority card etc.
    why should muslims vote only for congress ?
    voting is a citizens personal preference and should be based on the governments performance.

    We have a party which always calls Congress anti-Hindu, connects the murders of even rowdies to the congress party to gain sympathy votes from Hindus. So nothing wrong in what Siddu did.
